Educational Technology

Educational Technology (ET or “Ed Tech” as it is commonly referred to by those within its ranks) is an umbrella term that covers five seemingly diverse disciplines:

Distance Education: Understanding how to use and the best uses for all the electronic aides to the delivery of instruction both in face-to-face environments and through distance delivery.

Library Technologies: Understanding the ways and means through which documentation of information can be stored by libraries and accessed by whomever and however is prudent.

Instructional Design (also referred to as Message Design): The design of information as it is displayed both electronically and on the printed page. These technologies range from font selection to the layout of text and graphics to carefully selecting the correct media via which to convey information that makes it most assessable to and understandable by the learner.

Learning Theories: Theories and practices of the various learning theories ranging from Gardner’s multiple intelligences to emotional intelligences to learning styles to cognitive psychology to the various teaching methodologies–all meant to enhance the development of instruction that not only addresses but enhanced the various learners’ ability to assimilate knowledge and training not only in efficient and cost-effective ways but also in ways that aid the learner in retaining that knowledge as well.

Human Performance Technologies (HPT), which is subdivided into the following categories.

Human Performance Technologies

The body of Human Performance Technologies involves getting a firm grasp on where an individual or organization is currently situated, both positively and negatively, then discovering where s/he or they want to be in the future and then creating viable and efficient pathways to achieve those ends while, all-the-while, illuminating and eliminating the obstacles that inhibit their growth.

Through our Learning Processes Enhancement methodology, we help the client understand how both the mental processes and the physical environments enhance and inhibit learning and performance in every area. We assess who learns in what ways as well as how, in various organizations, some learning styles clash with others. We then help both individuals and organizations optimize their individual and collective learning styles to enhance their productivity.

Training & Development

We create trainings that embed knowledge in the learners rather than simply showering them with information. These range from designing intelligent yet easy-to-understand training material to delivering those trainings either face-to-face or in web-based/distance modalities.

Testimonial

“Chris, you are hardwired to help people. And the great thing is, you don’t have to understand the domain in which they work/live to help them. You’ve done this with me, time and again. You are so sensitive to the environment that you can track with them anyway. You do this almost intuitively by identifying the obstacles that hold them back, finding the origins of those obstacles, and then helping them figure out how to overcome them. The value you add to their work/lives is that you intuitively understand the ‘where the problem comes from’ part. Usually, it’s a lack of faith issue, and you have more faith than anyone I know.”
